Vyākaraṇa

Vyākaraṇa
Reading, understanding and knowing the meaning of the Vedas required an idea of the use of words in their proper and correct senses. Therefore, grammatical studies have been important in India from the time of Vedic period itself. According to tradition, there were nine schools of grammar and they are: Aindram, Candram, Kasakṛṣṇam, Kaumaram, Śākaṭāyanam, Sarasvatam, Apisalam, Śākalam and Pāṇiniyam. But now the only available text on Vyākara is Pāṇiniya also known as Aṣṭādhyāyī.
