Saṃhitā
 

Saṃhitā is a Sanskrit word which means “arranged together”; an ordered arrangement of words or verses can also be called Saṃhitā. In Saṃhitā, two words are coined together: sam meaning “appropriate” or “accurate”; and hita, which means “approved” or “arranged”. In Vedic terms, Saṃhitā means “properly arranged verses”. Thus, the basic mantra text of each of the Vedas is called “Saṃhitā”. We can also say Saṃhitā means “compilation” of Sūktas (hymns).
