Brāhmaṇa

Brāhmaṇas are the Vedic śruti (Śruti means "that which is heard" and refers to the body of most authentic, primordial religious texts comprising principle of Hinduism) works attached to the Saṃhitās (hymns and mantras) of the Rigveda,  Yajurveda, Sāmaveda,  and Atharvaveda. 

Brāhmaṇas are the secondary layer of the Vedic Sanskrit book submerge within the four Vedas, which give explanations and instructions to Brāhmiṇs during the the performance of Vedic rituals in which the related Saṃhitā are recited.

The Brāhmaṇas are the prose texts which explain the hymns of the Vedas, give explanations and applications and stories related to their origin.
