Nirukta
The Nirukta represents the attempts to interpret the Vedas. “Nirucyate Nisesena Upadisyate Nirvacanavidhaya Tadarthabodhanaya Padajatam Yat Tat Niruktam”. Those which tell, explain the meaning of a word with its complete form is known as Nirukta. Yaska’s Nirukta is considered as the earliest text available in this matter. The Nirukta explain words selected from the Vedas grouped into three groups: Naigadukakanda that explain many synonyms of words used in Vedas, Naigamakanda were meanings of difficult words are explained and Daivatakanda explaining a list of names of deities listed in Vedic texts. Yaskas’s Nirukta is the only text now available in this category.
