Śaunakīya Saṃhitā
The Śaunakīya Śā́khā is attributed to sage Śaunaka. The Saṃhitā portion of this Śā́khā is fully available now. This consists of twelve chapters or Khaṇḍas which includes thirty-four Prapāṭhakas. Mantras for protection from diseases, prayers for neutralising enemy’s power, Mantras for getting food etc. can be found in this Śā́khā.
The Śaunakīya Śā́khā is still lively in Gujarat, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Avadh region in Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh. Only Gujarat has maintained the oral traditions, and the Śākhā has been resuscitated in recent times in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and in Andhra Pradesh. At present, no Brāhmaṇa is known for the Śaunakīya Śā́khā.
